"Farming Culture" Community Gathering

Together, we’ll explore the connections between local cultural food production, climate resilience, and affordability—while sharing a meal and harvesting crops directly from the FarmFolkCityFolk Plot.

Join Iye and FarmFolk CityFolk for an intergenerational gathering at the Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture.

What to Expect

-  Tour at the FarmFolk CityFolk plot to learn about the cultural crops such as callaloo, chickpeas, basil, tulsi, and more.

- Seed Saving and Sovereignty demonstration: We'll talk about Seed saving as an act of cultural continuity.

- Learn about crop yields, and climate variability tracking with Lisa Willott.

- Hands-on chickpea harvest.

Shared Potluck & Community Lunch

Lunch will be provided. Bring a dish close to your heart and Enjoy a shared community meal featuring fresh produce grown right on the farm!

  • Featured Farm Crops: Dry beans, chickpeas, dry beans, epazote, collards, kale, callaloo, tomatoes, basil, tulsi, cucumbers, watermelons, cantaloupe, painted mountain corn, amaranth, and ground cherries.

  • Potluck Info: Attendees are invited to bring a dish close to their heart to share. (Please include a brief note on ingredients/dietary labels).

Facilitated Dialogue & Seed Sovereignty

- What is the Financial Reality (Can You Afford to Grow Cultural Foods?)

- Lowering Barriers for New Entrants (How Do We Create Access?)

Kids' Corner & Activities

Bring the whole family! While adults participate in group discussions, kids can enjoy hands-on activities at our dedicated Beans & Seed Station (featuring Kofi and the Seed Seekers).

This initiative operates as a GRP Action-Oriented Engagement, bridging climate adaptation, food sovereignty, and income security/affordability. By testing and growing culturally relevant crops, we are exploring with FarmCityFolk how place-based growing reduces reliance on expensive imported foods.

Thank you a collard bunch.
