Matilde Cervantes Navarrete

Vice-Chair

Matilde Cervantes (she/they) is an interdisciplinary researcher and artist with nearly two decades of experience curating and producing cultural and artistic events internationally through the Global Pax Collective* initiatives. Their work centers on arts-based practices, Indigenous and decolonial worldviews, and creative approaches to peacebuilding and social transformation. Her current research work explores the intersections of Planetary Health, biocultural diversity, and decolonial practices, with a particular focus on storytelling, arts-based methods, and relational ways of knowing. Matilde has taught in post-secondary institutions in Mexico and Canada and is currently a PhD candidate, alumni graduate fellow of the Centre for Global Studies, and affiliated with the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health at the University of Victoria. As a doctoral researcher, cultural practitioner, and climate justice advocate Matty’s work bridges Planetary Health, Indigenous and decolonial methodologies, and creative engagement. She brings extensive experience in community-based research, knowledge mobilization, and interdisciplinary collaboration across academic, artistic, and grassroots spaces.
